Art, when offered with honesty, with rigor, and with memory, is one of the most powerful weapons of the human being — if not the most.
An honesty in service of truth which, when embodied with attentiveness and awareness, opens paths toward freedom, toward sensitivity, and toward a better future.
My work as a singer, producer, musicologist, companion, and cultural agent does not (only) seek to entertain or bring beauty into the world — as if that were not already, in itself, profoundly valuable for the human being: to balance the hostile face and adversities of life, and of its contemporary reality.
But my commitment goes further. It seeks to restore what was silenced, correct what was distorted, remain useful in its truths, and offer itself to give space and voice to what has yet to be heard.
I engage with history not as a reliquary preserving a dead archive, but as a battleground for truth. And with the voice not as an instrument, but as a political, physical, spiritual, and affective body.
That is why I sing in more than twenty languages.
That is why I restore entire catalogues.
That is why I commission new works.
That is why I write, accompany, produce, edit, translate, teach, and expose myself.
That is why I proudly declare myself an artist: a countertenor — a voice already free from convention and gender, but also defiant — which I build in its entirety: with its light and its shadow, with beauty and humanity, with torment and even ugliness.
Without denying any of my edges: to be truly a mirror, a shared space, and a space of opposition. What is expected and what is not. Sea breeze, vomit, scream, blow, dagger, whisper or caress.
That is why I proudly declare myself an opera singer: because I sing in service of a work whose true protagonists are its creators — the composer and the librettist — and as a necessary part of a collective whole. A servant of art.
That is why I declare myself a child of the European classical tradition, raised in its rigor and memory, rich in idiosyncrasies; but with global culture and a language that has enriched what I carry in my blood, from my home, learned in school and in the coexistence of the streets I inhabit: from Barcelona to the world. Catalan, Andalusian, Gitano and Manchego.
That is why I declare myself spiritual.
That is why I proudly declare myself part of the LGBT+ community — of those who love souls and bodies, with respect, responsibility and reciprocity, but freely.
That is why I commit myself to mental health, to minorities, to historical truth, to aesthetic justice.
Because art is the language beyond the limits of language itself.
And because art, when it is true, is profoundly useful and absolutely necessary.
